Lifting the Community out of the Pandemic

At the beginning of the pandemic when many schools went online, I noticed the impact this had, specifically on high school student athletes. Not only did students lose the ability to learn and hang out with their friends in person, but all their sports practices were canceled. For many underprivileged students at Fountain Valley High School, this meant losing their only stress outlet. I listened to how this affected the mental health of his teammates and how much they missed camaraderie. The gyms that were still open had inflated prices and lacked the camaraderie of high school sports teams and sport-specific equipment and resources needed to train for high school sports. As a certified yoga and Pilates instructor, I decided to take this problem into his own hands and open his own garage as a space where athletes could congregate and distress; providing them with sport specific equipment, training, and coaching at an affordable price. I saw this depressing period as an opportunity to unite his community in the best way I knew how: by uniting them through their shared passions of sport and fitness. Through opening up my home to establish a business that gave underprivileged student athletes a space to lift he is simultaneously uplifting his community. I am bringing back the camaraderie of a high school weight room at a cheap and affordable price that promotes inclusiveness and is accessible to all no matter your background.
